Marvel Studios released the official trailer for Black Panther 2. From the looks of the trailer, the movie seems to be on an emotional tone as Wakanda seems to be mourning the loss of their King.

The trailer does reveal a few more enticing details that I’ll discuss below in this post.

First of all let’s get into the cast of Black Panther 2 which has some familiar faces:

Angela Bassett as the regal queen Ramonda

  • Lupita Nyong’o as spy Nakia
  • Letitia Wright as Shuri
  • Winston Duke as the warrior M’Baku
  • Danai Gurira as Dora Milaje leader Okoye

The prominent new members are:

  • Tenoch Huerta as Namor the sub-mariner
  • Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams who’ll later become Iron Heart
  • Mitzi Mabel Cadena as Namora
  • Alex Livinalli as Attuma

What is going on in Black Panther 2’s trailer?

The trailer begins with a powerful quote from Namor, “Only the most broken people can be great leaders.” We see Wakanda mourning with the loss of T’Challa and simultaneously we see Namor in Talocan.

Director Ryan Coogler in an interview with Entertainment Weekly reveals how he has made the world of Talocan especially for the MCU. In the comics, Namor ruled Atlantis. I think that Coogler didn’t want people to think that Namor is literally copied from Aquaman and hence he made this change. Talocan is inspired from the Aztec and Mayan culture.

The trailer has alternate shots from Talocan and Wakanda referencing the similarities of both the nations as advanced but hiding in plain sight.

We also get Riri William’s first look as Iron Heart. She’s similar to Shuri but is different in some ways. This is exactly what Black Panther 2 will showcase; contrast and similarity.

One other peculiar change that many may not notice is the use of anamorphic lens instead of spherical camera lens. Coogler’s explanation for this is that the former warps the image a little bit. This is meant as a reference that when we’re dealing with loss, our vision seems to warp.

Is Namor the villain of Black Panther 2? What are his powers?

Namor is not the villain of Black Panther 2. What the trailer shows is mostly a diversion as Marvel doesn’t want to reveal too much. Namor is like the anti-villain which means that for most part of the movie you will see him go against Wakanda aggressively. But in the end he will realize that someone conspired against him and made him do this.

That person is Attuma who is the main villain of this movie.

Namor is a mutant who has wings on his feet. His powers include enhanced strength, durability, flight, telepathic abilities and lonetivity.

Who is Riri Williams?

Riri Williams is new character that this movie introduces. She’s a brilliant intellectual who wants to follow the footsteps of Tony Stark.

A team of scientists uses the device made by Riri to find Vibranium in the middle of the ocean which awakens Namor and the Talocans.

Is Shuri the New Black Panther?

Shuri is definitely the New Black Panther as the trailer reveals her first look of playing this character. But this movie will deal with all the trouble Shuri will face to become the new protector of Wakanda.

The hidden reason behind the November 11 release date

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to release on 11th November. This translates to 11:11 and has 2 reasons behind this.

  1. In a biblical verse, 11:11 refers to a catastrophe which is about to come. In this movie, this catastrophe is Namor attacking and destroying Wakanda
  2. 11:11 also mirror each other the same way that Wakanda and Talocan do. Both have been hidden from the world and have advanced Vibranium technology.

It’s good to see Marvel putting so much efforts behind this movie. I’m pretty sure this will be the biggest Marvel movie of 2022.
