Hugh Jackman confirmed to return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 — The Cinephile Hub
Ryan Reynolds recently announced on social media that Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
This video is basically a joking reference on Reynold’s efforts to make Deadpool 3 but in the end Hugh Jackman agrees to come back. This was the biggest surprise for me as it was for the internet.
Deadpool 2 post credits scene teased Wolverine’s Return
Deadpool at the end of Deadpool 2 gets a hold of Cable’s time travelling device and goes to the end of Wolverine: Origins and kills Wade Wilson. He then says:
“Just cleaning up the timeline. Look eventually you’re going to hang up the claws and that’s gonna make a lot of people very sad. One day your old pal Wade is going to ask you to join the saddle again and when he does, say yes.”
Now, all these years later we’re finally getting Wolverine alongside Deadpool and that too in the MCU.
What does this mean for Wolverine?
Hugh Jackman’s return to play the Adamantium Clawed Animal also raises questions such as:
- What about the movie Logan?
- Isn’t Wolverine dead?
- How is Wolverine alive in the MCU?
To answer these questions, Jackman added another video on his twitter where he addressed some of these questions:
Not only that, even Logan’s director James Mangold tweeted regarding Hugh Jackman’s return.
Apparently, Logan takes place in the year 2029 and both Jackman & Mangold have confirmed that, in the near future that’s how Wolverine meets his fate. So, canon or not, multiverse or not, he dies in 2029. MCU isn’t touching Logan.
But Deadpool 3 has a release date of 26th September 2024 which means it may be set-up around the 2025–2027 timeline. This gives Jackman’s Logan in the MCU plenty of time to be around. It’s not yet confirmed that if he will be in Avengers: Secret Wars but now that can be a possibility.
So, this is Marvel giving fans exactly what they want but also avoiding many problems at the same time. It’s possible that after 2030, we may not see Jackman in the MCU anymore because his time would be over. But before that, he’s in the MCU.
Is Hugh Jackman Earth-616’s Wolverine?
Unless Deadpool 3 officially confirms this fact, Hugh Jackman is not Earth-616’s Wolverine. Marvel Studios is still looking for an actor to play this role. But with Jackman around, they may slow down their search for at least 5 years now.
What will Deadpool 3 be based on?
There’s a rumor that in Deadpool 3 we will see Wolverine and Deadpool go on a road trip. This is the same thing which was originally planned before, Disney got the rights to X-men. We will have to wait until Comic Con 2023 until we get more updates about Deadpool 3.
